Sixteen jobs we run across the valley, each with a published range
Sixteen jobs, fourteen of them with a range and two quoted once the openings have been counted on site. What moves a figure inside its range here is which door you mean and what the salt has done to it: a cylinder still turning cleanly takes the low end, a plug pitted by years of fog takes the high one. Say which door and how the key feels, and the range closes to a single number on the call.

Emergency Locksmith
The door from the garage into the house, shut behind somebody carrying laundry up the half-flight. A key that snapped in a cylinder nobody has touched since the tract was built. A front door up eight outside steps with the keys visible on the hall table. A car locked in a BART lot at Daly City or Colma with the fob on the seat, or out in the open at the Westlake center or Serramonte. A shop on Mission Street at one in the morning with a delivery due at six. Openings start with picks, shims and bypass tools, so wherever the mechanism allows it the lock is still a working lock afterward rather than a hole. Two limits get said in the first minute instead of in your driveway. Garage door springs, cables, panels and opener motors are a different trade and not this one, which matters in a city where nearly every house has a garage at the sidewalk. And where a door has been forced, the jamb, the strike and the cylinder are rebuilt on the same visit and itemized for whoever has to file the claim.
Emergency overviewHouse Lockout
$129–$239$129 to $239. Garage service doors, the narrow door beside the garage opening, front doors at the top of the outside steps, side gates and patio sliders, opened without damage and with a key cut at the curb before anyone drives off. The $89 call-out is inside the figure and the hour is said on the phone.
Car Lockout
$105–$199$105 to $199. Keys shut in the car at the curb outside the house, in a BART lot at Daly City or Colma, or out in the open at Westlake or Serramonte. Air wedge and reach tool, and nothing left marked on the paint or the weather seal.
Business Lockout
$139–$259$139 to $259. A shop on Mission Street, a unit in one of the centers, a stockroom or a yard office out at Bayshore, opened once a lease, a badge or the property manager settles who you are. Between midnight and 7am the figure carries $90, said before you agree to it.
Post Break-In Lock Repair
$169–$449$169 to $449. A split jamb rebuilt through to the stud, a long strike reaching framing instead of trim, a fresh cylinder and a bolt that meets the frame again. One visit, with the parts listed separately for an insurer.

Residential Locksmith
Three ages of house sit inside the city limits and they fail in three different ways. On the streets laid out between 1948 and 1962 the work is almost always at pavement level: a garage service door on original hardware, a narrow pedestrian door beside the garage opening, a knob with no deadbolt above it. In Serramonte and the tracts that followed it from 1963 the bores are the modern size and the trouble is movement — a hallway door off the garage that has swollen until the bolt misses the hole. In Vista Grande and around Top of the Hill it is mortise cases in narrow stiles and frames that have shifted on the slope. Across all three the commonest job is the same one: bring the front door, the garage service door and the pedestrian door onto a single key at $29 to $46 per cylinder, and put a real deadbolt where a house has only ever had a latch button. Cylinders get repinned rather than replaced while there is life left in them, and where the ocean has already been through one, the replacement is named by grade and finish before it goes on.
Residential overviewLock Rekeying
$29–$46 per cylinder$29 to $46 per cylinder. The lock stays on the door and takes new pins, which kills every key handed out before today. Front door, garage service door and pedestrian door on one key is the usual order here. Cylinders after the first cost less, because the drive only happened once.
Lock Replacement & Installation
$125–$329$125 to $329. Deadbolts, knob sets and levers, including a first proper deadbolt on a lower door that has only ever had a latch button. Where the ocean has already been through the old one, the grade and the finish of the replacement are named before it goes on.
Smart Lock Installation
$189–$479$189 to $479. A keypad or app lock fitted to the door the household actually uses, which on these streets means the one at the bottom rather than the one at the top of the steps. Codes you choose and enter twice while the technician is standing there, and the override key cut at the van the same day.
Safe Opening
$199–$539$199 to $539. A safe opened where it stands, by manipulation wherever the lock allows it, whether the combination is lost or the bolts have jammed, then set to a number you pick and keep somewhere else.

Commercial Locksmith
The shop fronts along Mission Street at the top of the hill, where the door opens straight onto the sidewalk and the steps are behind it rather than in front. The centers at Westlake and Serramonte and the small tenancies behind them. The warehouses and yards out at Bayshore toward Geneva Avenue and the Cow Palace. Aluminum storefront doors whose hookbolt stopped throwing once the frame moved on the slope, deadlatches worn shallow enough that the leaf no longer holds itself, closers pulling a door out of square until nothing lines up with anything. Exit devices on kitchens and back-of-house doors, keypads and readers for a unit where a key has been out too long, and one key sitting above the rest for an owner holding a row of them. Master key work and access control are not quoted down a phone line: somebody walks the building, writes down every door and who should open it, and the figure comes after that. The roll-up bay itself belongs to the door trade, and that is said early rather than late.
Commercial overviewMaster Key Systems
custom quoteQuoted after the doors have been counted. One key sitting above a key for each door, for an owner holding a row of units or a manager with a corridor of them. Nobody prices this over the phone, because a building that has not been walked cannot be priced honestly.
Panic Bars & Exit Devices
$299–$779$299 to $779 per door. Push bars and exit devices for shops, kitchens and back-of-house doors, fitted, rebuilt or brought back into line so the latch lands square instead of scraping past the keeper.
Access Control
custom quoteQuoted after the doors have been counted. Keypads, readers, electric strikes and credentials for units and small offices, with a mechanical override cylinder left working on every leaf so a flat battery is never the end of the story.
Storefront Door Locks
$159–$469$159 to $469. Aluminum glass doors on Mission Street and in the centers: hookbolts that no longer throw, deadlatches worn shallow, tired cylinders, and closers dragging a door out of square on a frame that has moved with the slope.

Automotive Locksmith
The garage under the house holds one car, so the second one lives at the curb on a 25-foot frontage in the damp, and that is where a fair share of this work happens. The rest is in the lots: 2,068 spaces at Daly City BART, 2,238 at Colma, forty acres of parking at the Westlake center and the ground around 860,000 square feet of Serramonte. Blade keys, proximity fobs, transponders and ignitions are all handled where the vehicle stands rather than behind a tow truck. Ownership is settled first — license, registration, plate, all three agreeing — and only then does a blank go into the cutter. Nothing gets packed up until the engine has fired twice on the new key and both doors answer it, and a key that has gone missing is dropped out of the car's memory when you ask for that.
Automotive overviewCar Key Replacement
$155–$419$155 to $419. Blade or proximity key cut and coded against the car where it is parked, with a spare made in the same session even when the last key is gone. License, registration and plate are read against each other before the machine is switched on.
Key Fob Programming
$95–$199$95 to $199. A remote or proximity fob paired without the car going anywhere, and the old one either kept as a spare or dropped from the vehicle memory, whichever you want.
Ignition Repair
$185–$459$185 to $459. A cylinder that will not turn, or turns and leaves the dash dead, rebuilt or swapped at the curb and pinned to the door key you already carry wherever the make allows it.
Motorcycle Keys
$125–$289$125 to $289. Bikes and scooters, the blade cut to the lock code and the chip coded where the machine is parked.

Say which door you are standing at and the call gets short
Daly City and the north Peninsula, every hour of the day. The door decides the work and the work decides the number, so the figure comes back on the call with the $89 call-out and the hour already inside it, and it is the figure on the receipt. Ninety days on the labor, in writing.
